Backtest Multiple Strategies
Test multiple trading strategies, including moving-average crossovers, against historical price data while freely changing the symbol, period, and parameters. No programming knowledge required.
Describe it in plain language, it becomes a strategy
Just describe a condition like “trade on a moving average crossover” or “buy when the 5-period and 20-period moving averages form a golden cross,” and it’s converted into a backtest configuration. There’s no need to fill out a complex settings screen — you can test an idea the moment you think of it.
Example: Typing “buy when the 5-period and 20-period moving averages form a golden cross” automatically calculates the results of that rule against a year of BTCUSD or XAUUSD price history.
What you can check
Compare equity curve, realized P&L, win rate, and maximum drawdown across different time periods. You can iterate freely by changing the symbol, timeframe, and parameters to narrow down a configuration.
Important note
Backtesting is a simulation based on historical data. It’s easy to fit parameters tightly to past price action (overfitting), but that is no guarantee the strategy will keep working going forward. Results are for reference only and are not investment advice.
Available strategies
You can test common trading rules while changing their parameters.
- SMA cross: trades when the short and long moving averages cross.
- Bollinger Bands (mean reversion): trades against the move when price reaches outside the bands.
- Ichimoku (Tenkan/Kijun cross): trades on crosses of the conversion line and the base line.
- Ichimoku (Kijun + Chikou): combines the base line and the lagging span.
- EMA perfect order: in markets where the short, mid and long EMAs are stacked in order, enters on pullbacks after checking the candlestick shape. Stop-loss and take-profit come from recent highs/lows and the mid EMA.
- Free-form rule: tests conditions you describe in plain language as a trading rule.
Symbols, timeframes and periods
Price data comes from real market prices delivered by the operator's MT5 account. Only symbols with data are available; currently Bitcoin (BTCUSD, BTCJPY), Ethereum (ETHUSD), gold (XAUUSD), crude oil (USOIL), EUR/USD and USD/JPY.
Timeframes are 5-min, 15-min, 30-min, 1-hour, 4-hour and daily; periods range from the last 2 weeks up to 5 years. The amount of data differs by symbol, and the number of bars and date range are shown when you select a symbol.
Reading the results
Besides the equity curve, the results show the drawdown curve (decline from the previous peak), monthly P&L and a list of trades with the exit reason.
You also get a simple 10-point score calculated from return, maximum drawdown, profit factor and number of trades, plus short notes. Results with few trades are heavily affected by chance, so they score lower. The score is only a rough guide.
Tip: always check the maximum drawdown and the number of trades, not just net profit. A setting that loses 30–40% of the balance along the way is hard to stick with in live trading, even if it ends in profit.
FAQ
Do I need programming skills?
No. Choose a strategy and parameters on screen, or simply describe the conditions in plain language.
How is my plain-language description used?
It fills in the settings automatically (symbol, timeframe, period, strategy, take-profit/stop-loss and so on). The backtest only runs when you press the run button, and you can review and edit the settings first.
Will a setting with good results keep winning?
There is no guarantee. Test the same setting on other periods and symbols to make sure the results do not fall apart, then try it on a demo account or with a small amount.
